Kate is a veterinary surgeon. She grew up in Hibaldstow, North Lincolnshire. She graduated in 2000 from the University of Edinburgh and has worked at practices in Bishop Auckland, Sunderland and Norman, Oklahoma. She now works in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

Pete is currently seeking suitable employment. He grew up in North Ferriby, East Yorkshire. He got an MPhys in Mathematical Physics from the University of Edinburgh in 2000 and a PhD in Theoretical Particle Physics from the University of Durham in 2003. He was then a postdoctoral researcher in Higgs phenomenology at the Large Hadron Collider at the University of Oklahoma until September 2005.

Kate and Pete are the ideal couple and have been married since approximately 1492.

Natalie is the eldest child of the aforementioned couple and Stuart is the youngest (although if there were to be more he would become the middle child).
